History
The initiative for the establishment of the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (BOI) came from Romania who organized the 1st BOI in Costantza, Romania 
.
Dr. Stelian Niculescu, Dr. Choria Georgeskou, Dr. Clara Ionescou were, among others, the driving force of that first unforgettable event.
Following the success of the 1st BOI, other countries continued the tradition as follows:

1995 - Bulgaria
1996 - Cyprus
1997 - Greece (Drama)
1998 - Turkey
1999 - Greece (Ioannina)
2000 - FYROM
2001 - Albania
2002 - Serbia & Montenegro
2003 - Romania
2004 - Bulgaria
2005 - Greece (Rhodes Island)
Over the years the list of countries participating in BOI increased and now also includes Moldova and Boznia Herzegovina.
